August 28, 2012 | By | 44 Comments">44 Comments

Within one year, the EntreLeadership Podcast has reached 1 million downloads, and has remained the #1 podcast on the planet for leadership. How crazy is that?!

If you can’t see the graphic, click here.

And that’s all because of you the listeners. Because of this, we have a special EntreLeadership Podcast Q & A with Dave Ramsey. We took questions from all over including the ChrisLoCurto.com readers and spent the whole podcast asking those to Dave. On top of that, next Tuesday will be the extended interview just for you guys.

So click the graphic above for a great EntreLeadership Podcast episode!

Loved this. I almost prefer hearing Dave talk about leadership than I do finances, which is weird. But you can just tell he REALLY cares about the workplace environment and culture and how to take care of people. Great stuff. Thanks!

Totally loved this interview: one of the big shot in the arm moments: when Dave said something like: you don’t need to be growing like mad to be successful. If you’ve managed to stay open another year, that makes you successful. Yeah!

    • Laura Johnson

Another year…..with taxes paid, bills paid, employees paid, and no loans taken out? :)

      • http://twitter.com/epicenterone Aaron Nelson

Err…working on getting those things paid….I’ll get back to you on that, but darn tootin that will be adding to the feeling of success when those bad boys are paid off.

    • Laura Johnson

      I do agree, Aaron!! :)

Aaron – it especially applies to my business – MORTGAGE BUSINESS!

  • Laura Johnson

So, I totally just listened to this podcast on my iphone while running tonight! Just found my new favorite thing to do while running…. :)
And…I guess that means Dave Ramsey and Chris LoCurto joined me on my run tonight–they make pretty decent running partners ;)

  • TroyD

I have been listening since the beginning, the success is no surprise to me. Good stuff Chris (& team), congrats!

Congratulations, Becky! You have put up with Chris on this podcast for a year! Seriously, though, thanks Chris for all you have done here. Definitely an example in giving.

Great questions and great answers. I’ll probably be listening to this again…today!

You guys are awesome Chris…I’m looking for 10 million more downloads lol!

Dave’s no-nonsense approach to business is both refreshing and scary. I think they’ve set the bar so high, some people need a step ladder just to walk in the door.

    • http://caroldublin.com/ Carol Dublin

I agree Lily, and the thing that is most encouraging to me is that all of this information is real – it’s not just theory, but they already DO all of these things and they work. Very encouraging.

    • Laura Johnson

I agree too. But at the same time, I am glad business (and people in business) can be dealt with that way! I guess I’m leaning a little toward the “refreshing” side… :)

  • http://caroldublin.com/ Carol Dublin

Congratulations Chris – a million downloads – and always such great information. Love the Q&A opportunities, especially with Dave. Always reinforces what i learned in EntreLeadership and in re-reading the book – needless to say, mine is pretty much all highlighted!

  • http://www.mattmcwilliams.com/ Matt McWilliams

Wow that first question was awesome if I say so myself.

Thanks for asking it Chris and I am thankful to Dave for the answer. I do realize that the current problem of late payments from one client were entirely my fault in the beginning. Now it’s been going on for so long that it’s awkward. It should have been addressed beforehand. At least then I could remind them of it if it became a problem.

Like I said before it’s a weird situation where one client is basically paying for our house, food, clothes, all of our bills, daughter’s college, gas, and much more but only takes about 1/5 of my work time. So I kind of need them. But the stress each month (especially for my wife) is brutal when we don’t know if we will get paid or when.

    • http://caroldublin.com/ Carol Dublin

Woohoo Matt – you got a question on! Great question. Makes sense that setting out the expectations at the front end of the relationship makes the rest go smoothly – like with hiring. Of course, it’s hard for you now – hope you get it worked out.

    • http://twitter.com/epicenterone Aaron Nelson

Curious Matt – is there any way you can call in a meeting and lay things on the table nicely? Like: guys, we need you set your payments for this date? What would it take for you to be able to pay me at that time? Do I need to invoice you sooner? If You make payments on time, I’ll throw in a widget that has a digital picture of me that smiles at you and yells “You’re a bowl full of awesome!”

Seriously though…we’re wrangling a client in on this too. Partly, it’s our fault. (I felt that too) We have been talking and talking with them about this (after the 6th straight month of being paid sometimes a month late = can you say OUCH! – like you, these guys pay my basically…everything.) So we agreed to submit our invoice a full 15 days earlier in order to get a jump on their internal processes…seems to be working. Still some kinks to work out (they’re late again by a few days…so we’ll see….) but this could be the way we solve our payment issues.

The other one: get out there and club a new star client so you can fire this one. We had to do that a few years ago – a late payer forced us to 90 day terms. Nearly broke us. We fired em, and thankfully had another client come on board to take the empty space up.

      • http://www.mattmcwilliams.com/ Matt McWilliams

I’ll bet if I throw in that bowl full of awesomeness it would do the trick Aaron. Why didn’t I think of that? HAHA

See below in my reply to Laura. I think I figured out the answer.

Thankfully I can more than pay the bills with my other clients, so even if they dropped me and didn’t pay me or went bankrupt, it’s not the end of the world.

    • Laura Johnson

Yeah….tough stuff. The last business I worked for had the same problem with late-paying clients. I was the excuse for the new required payment deadlines and penalties. Of course, I was the one who put them in place and sent the info out (right after I was hired) :) Got any employees you could “blame” it on? ;)

      • http://www.mattmcwilliams.com/ Matt McWilliams

Dave was spot on. The problem was in the expectation set. The contract is somewhat vague in terms of when payment is due. Is it net 30 from the end of the month, net 30 from the reconciliation date (the 11th of the following month), or net 30 from the invoice date? Hard to say if you read it literally. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed the latter, which meant 30 days after invoice, which is on the 11th-14th (depending on how holidays and weekends fall).

But then they missed that even.

I decided last night that the best solution is to wrangle them to get the current payment to me ASAP. Then it’s time to have the talk. I don’t want to have the talk while they owe me money. I’d rather have it as a general conversation. Less intimidating to them that way and less likely that I will get emotional. I could be wrong, but that is how I decided to go.

I think it was also important for me to realize as much as I enjoy their money, they also are in a pickle and can’t get rid of me right now. I manage their largest account by far and they would owe me a two year tail (meaning they will pay me my commission for two years without me doing a thing) on that account and two smaller ones if they dropped me now. So, that is reassuring and gives me the confidence to handle this. I mean worst case is they drop me, I have a 0% immediate reduction in income, a slight reduction in a few months, might have to fight to get paid going forward, and I have more free time or time to get other clients.

As Dave says about worst cases…I can still pay the bills, so I can live with it.

        • http://twitter.com/epicenterone Aaron Nelson

Didn’t see this answer…and that rocks. You found your 3rd option kinda. It sounds great! I don’t know who said it, but it’s totally true: if you aren’t willing to walk away from any deal, then you shouldn’t be doin the deal in the first place.

I think you’re in the perfect space man. Well done.

          • http://www.mattmcwilliams.com/ Matt McWilliams

That’s because I wrote it after you commented :)

  • mkokc

I got a question on! Awesome!

    • Laura Johnson

And what does mkokc stand for (if you don’t mind sharing)?
I’m imagining… Missionary Kid in OKlahoma City :)

Chris – congratulations. Nothing gets that kind of traction unless the content is awesome. I listened to you and Dave answering questions while I was on the treadmill this morning – great stuff!

One Meeell-ion Downloads. (Pinkey finger directed at lips.) That’s awesome, really… Kudos to you guys & gal! It’s a great combination of inspiration, great information, and fun. I listen to a few other podcasts (that will remain nameless) and the EntreLeadership Podcast is the ONLY one that I don’t consistantly listen to at 2x speed. Some of these interviews have too much good stuff to keep up at 1x speed! Again kudos, from an “improved leader”.

    • http://twitter.com/epicenterone Aaron Nelson

“Here, here Jeremy!” I’m with you there! I’ve played and replayed each Entreleadership podcast at least 5 times each so far. (Mobile U, baby!)

  • http://www.livebeyondawesome.com/ Jen McDonough

Chris – 1 million downloads? Crazy, FUN stuff!!!!!!!! Continues to remain #1 – CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am anxious to listen to the most recent download on my next run – good stuff to full the brain and chew on while exercising.

As usual looking forward to getting to the office where I can listen to this :)

    The countdown begins…1:09…

I, on the other hand, am looking forward to getting to the car so I can listen to this. I’ll make a great break from “Atlas Shrugged.”

      • http://www.mattmcwilliams.com/ Matt McWilliams

Ironic. One of my favorite books and I just had a friend ask about it. He complained that the audio version is 60 hours. He travels a lot to CA for business and I told him that was only like 6 trips :)

        • http://bretwortman.com/ Bret Wortman

I’m actually digging the audio version. I like audiobooks because the temptation to just kind of skip over the long pages of exposition just isn’t there. You actually get every single word the author wrote. It’s about as pure as it gets.

          • http://www.mattmcwilliams.com/ Matt McWilliams

With you there. I’m auditory learner. In college, I could read the book and get nothing. Go to class, listen, maybe take notes, and bam! Aced the tests. Tests on the books…not so much.
