  1. What a simple and great mission statement! Their coffee is built around the most important things in our lives, which is our relationships.

    1. Amen brother. If you’re going to put out something that makes people happy, you might as well be yourself. 🙂

  2. You should have recorded this particular podcast in front of a live studio audience and then gave away the coffee to a screaming crowd of awesomeness. That’s what Oprah did, and look how she turned out. Just saying. 🙂

      1. Of course, you’ll need to play to your strengths. The Oprah Affect made any one of her book club books a best seller. Perhaps the LoCurto Affect could increase the wait time any dining establishment by 200%.

          1. The crazy thing was the Skropp effect. I had even MORE traffic when you did your guest post…

  3. I love this interview. David sounds like a very down to earth guy with a good prospective on what makes a company great. I love his story about going the extra mile. I think his example is one to imitate.

  4. Great interview. I love the culture that embraces having fun and sense of humor. The story about the client and the variety of carrot-based products they used to win his business is a great example of the creativity needed to stand out in a crowded market. Good work Chris. Thanks for all you do.

  5. Hey Chris, Just saw your post on FB and would love free coffee anytime, but more importantly love the inspiration you and your podcast bring. Thank you for your part in changing how we all view “our job”.

  6. Pick me! Pick me! Ever since David joined the blog commenting party, I’ve been a raving Dillanos fan. I’ve shared with people around me how amazing Dillanos is as a company and how much I love their coffee. Every once in a while, I’ll brew a pot of Dillanos to replace the bad… I mean… lesser quality ‘free’ coffee we get at work. People love it! I’m a happy customer too. I’ve received great service from them. Here’s an excerpt from an email I got from Scott H. when I tried to reset my password “I recognized your name in my inbox and wanted to help you out myself…” What?! He recognized my name! Of course I got my password reset and was able to purchase my coffee. I think we can all follow Dillanos mission “Help people, make friends, have fun”. Great podcast!!!!

  7. Hmmmmm….for some weird reason that I’m not sure of, I’m not really motivated to enter this giveaway 😉 haha. But, that being said, many people whose opinions I highly respect LOVE this coffee.. So in the spirit of giving, I will NOT enter this giveaway! (you’re welcome Lily, Matt, Joel and others!)
    I know, I’m a giver, what can I say?
I am, however, excited to listen to this interview!

  8. Oh my goodness, I LOVE Dillano’s coffee after you introduced me Chris. That is the highlight of my weekend (I can’t afford it all the time so it’s a weekend treat – and sometimes Friday becomes part of the weekend). Love their culture. When I tweet that I’ve ordered or received a bag – they always respond. And I loved David Morris’s idea to tell the younger David to “do less things executed exceptionally.” Encapsulates the Dillano’s culture perfectly. Thanks for a GREAT podcast!

  9. Pick Lily! I don’t do FB or Twitter, only the CLo blog. Looking forward to listening to the interview tomorrow as today is my hair-on-fire-no-studio-time day. Phew – gotta run!

p.s. Hey Chris, it would be fun to see a blog post about all the winners. . . or you could stretch it out and do one post per winner along with a mini-interview of how they benefited from you and your interviewee’s generosity.

  10. I really love the pace at which these entreleadership podcasts are posted. It gives me time to listen to them multiple times and really look for ways to take baby steps implementing them into my life before attacking the next one. Keep up the great interviews. Thanks Brandon

  11. I would love to try some new coffee, you know Washington State claims to be the “best Coffee” state and I must admit this state has made me a coffee snob! So, I would love to be a product tester and sip on some of this coffee as I read my new book, “The Start Up of You!”

and by the way I’m now addicted to this blog! Congrats Chris and the tribe for being my first!

    1. wow this pod cast rocked my world yesterday. I could totally picture the culture he has develop at his business. And today I’ve been repeating to my self, “over communicate, over communicate.” and thanks for sharing Dave’s lesson too.

  12. Gourmet coffee from a company that cares about working hard and having fun? Imagine that! Podcast+Coffee #bestthingsinlifearefree
Keep up the good work guys.
    Thanks.

  13. South Carolina is a LONG way from Washington state. Us southern boys need to be taught what great NW coffee is all about.

Heading over to YouTube to see more about Dillion’s culture. Being intentional about culture is a goal this year…

  14. Great interview! I love coffee, and I’d thought about running a kiosk too. I decided I like drinking it more than making it 8 hours a day. 🙂

My favorite part of the interview was when David talked about courting the client with carrots. I need to get more creative like that! The pallet of baby food was an stroke of genius. 🙂

Thanks, Chris and David! Looking forward to the extended.

  15. Woohoo! Happy to see a leader from the Pacific Northwest featured on the podcast. Our church actually is a Dillanos customer and we serve their quality brew for free to folks every weekend!

Congrats, David! Sounds like you have an amazing culture. Thank you for sharing.

  16. Chris, Great interview. I often wonder what it would be like to work in an environment where the culture is like that of Dillanos or at Financial Peace Plaza. I love my job as a physical therapist but the pressure of seeing a crazy number of patients then having the boss expect you to get paper work done at home is stressful. This doesn’t include dealing with the boss’ sarcasm. My wife and I were robbed on our anniversary (Dec 20) and I had to listen to him make jokes for a solid month about things getting stolen. But anyway, I love the podcast as it has taught me a lot since I started listening a couple of months ago. Still, my all time favorite is John Maxwell. I have listened to it about 10 times and I recently got his book. Thanks for all the information you and the team put out. So..about the coffee. I would love some. Currently I’m drinking Folgers. If that is not enough reason to be selected, Feb 4 is my birthday!

  17. I enjoyed hearing David Morris on your interview–the way he makes fun a part of his company is so appealing! And speaking of fun, it sure looks like the commenters have been having a good share of fun, too! Nice!

  18. I love coffee and I love a good company I can support with pride. Thanks for another great interview/podcast and for a new coffee company to check out!

  19. The Dillanos mission statement is almost the same thing I told my son when he was going through a rough time in college. He was a ROTC student and was having trouble with some of his courses. He was thinking about dropping out or transferring primarily because he was not meeting his expectations and what he thought was his parent’s expectations for him. I told him I wanted him to have fun and make some good friends. If he really wanted to pursue the military as a career then some of his friends from college would likely be his friends through out his military career. Good grades would come when he lowered his stress level and had a little fun. So he changed his major and put the time and effort to make a few good friends. The Army must of recognized something they liked since they gave him more leadership responsibilities in his senior year. Not bad for a guy who almost dropped out of school and was on academic suspension for a semester. He is now in his final semester and looking forward to his career in the Army. The Army is probably pretty happy, too. Turning a new crop of young men and women into leaders every year is a tough job and they probably appreciate any help they can get along the way. As a parent this was not the plan we envisioned four years ago but as Hannibal Smith once said, “I love it when a plan comes together”.

  20. Chris – loved this interview! Man, this guy is living and doing what he says. It was great motivation. I also loved the high challenge question – what are you doing to be a better communicator? Keep up the good work, thanks again!

  21. Dillanos! Sounds like an exciting company, and an inspiring story of how the company is lead! Listening to your team members is one of the biggest takeaways I got from the Podcast, and having a fun environment certainly softens people up to offer honest feedback.

  22. Great podcast and interview! It’s encouraging to hear about companies that have developed and maintain great cultures. I also love how Dave kind of stumbled upon the business that would launch such a great company!

  23. Thanks for your podcasts, always a who’s-who of my favorite authors and motivators. The serving and helping first strategy seems to be working; after 6 years in business, referrals and repeat business continue to gain momentum.

  24. My first ever comment on a blog. I liked the interview with David. Too bad everyplace isn’t as great to work, but can always keep trying to build that culture.

Have really enjoyed listening the your interviews. They make my commute so much better.

Thanks Chris for all that you do.
