Welcome to the show, folks. I hope you're having a fabulous day, wherever you are. Today, we are diving into the transformative power of shifting your mindset from scarcity to abundance.
Now, there's a lot in this. We're gonna, we're gonna be hitting a lot of stuff. But what I want you to do is have an open mind to possibly recognize. Do I have a scarcity mindset? Do I have, if I think I have an abundance mindset?
Is it what I think it is? Right. Do I have as much as I think or I believe that I do? So we're gonna discover not only the obvious benefits, but also some unexpected ones that can truly reshape your life and your relationships.
Why Shift to an Abundance Mindset?
So here's the question, why shift to an abundance mindset? Well, to answer that question, I feel like we've got to kind of know the difference between an abundance mindset and a scarcity mindset.
The scarcity mindset is that mindset that there's just never enough. There's never enough time, there's never enough resources. There's never enough money.
Somebody's always got more than I do. I don't have my fair share. I'm always going to have to watch out. I'm always going to be in competition with others.
All of this is this scarcity mindset. There's not enough business. I can't stand competitors because they're just taking away from me.
And again, because of that, I have to become an even stronger competitor to beat out the other people. All of this scarcity, there's. There's not enough.
I'm not gonna make it with what I've got. I can't sustain with what I have. This can not only be in finances, it can be in relationships. You know, I don't have enough love in my life. I don't have enough friends in my life.
I don't have enough fill in the blank. An abundance mindset should be obvious is the opposite of that, right? There's plenty to go around. There's plenty money.
There's plenty resources. There's plenty of love. There's plenty of people to have as friends in your life. There is plenty. Therefore, enjoy it. Have, you know, be in the present, find joy in today. Right.
Spend time focusing on what's happening in front of you, not worrying about what you don't have and what you got to go after as soon as you possibly can.
So with that, doesn't it kind of sound obvious we should want to be in an abundance mindset? Now here's the deal. It's not just thinking positively, right?
It's not just being a positive person. It's a whole new way of looking at the world that can seriously boost your personal life. It can boost your professional life as well.
Expected benefits of an Abundance Mindset
So here's some expected benefits of an abundance mindset. We're going to kind of go through these, not crazy deep, but enough to make sure that we're on the same page.
Increased Optimism
One of the first things that should be expected is increased optimism. Folks with an abundance mindset, they're already optimistic. They already see the glass is half full. Right?
If the glass is half to them, it's always half full. There's room for more. There's, you know, they're positive because you know today's going to be a good day. Well, it's not a full glass. How can you be so positive?
Because there's great room for opportunity. Right? So an abundance mindset helps you to focus on positive aspects of life, which helps you to really foster a more optimistic outlook on life.
You see life differently. Everybody needs that. Everybody could use that in their life right now.
Enhanced Resilience
Another expected benefit is enhanced resilience. And you've heard me talking about resilience for a while. That's a must, man. You've got to have resilience in your life.
You've got to be able to bounce back after being hit with something, and that is something. Praise God. I've had a hit or 10,000 in my life. And praise God for the bulk of my life.
I've had pretty solid resilience. I could say when I was younger there were times that it took a long time for me to bounce back. It's not the same way in the last handful of decades.
So when you have an abundance mindset, you're better equipped to handle setbacks. You're better equipped to bounce back from failures.
Improved Decision-Making
Another expected result is improved decision making. Think about it. When you believe that there are ample opportunities, business owners and leaders think about this, right?
And it doesn't just, I'm not just speaking to just business owners and leaders. If you're a brother or a sister, a mom or a dad, you know a spouse.
When you believe that there's ample opportunities, then you make decisions from a place of confidence rather than a place of fear.
When you have a scarcity mindset, you make decisions from a place of fear, or dare I say, desperation. There is nothing worse than making decisions out of desperation. Why do I say that?
Because what kind of results are you going to get from desperate decision making? Desperate results. And think about this, right? How great can they be?
If you're desperate about a decision that you have to make, then you're not going to think through with quality perspective. You're not going to think through with, you know, what are my best options?
What are all of my opportunities? You know, there's, there's ample opportunities out there. Let me just find the best one. You're actually going to be responding to whatever your desperation is.
If your desperation is money, then you're going to respond with your decision making according to what you think is going to get you the best amount of money. Think about that. Right?
What if money isn't an issue because you have an abundance mindset? Obviously. Caveat is, if money is an issue, that's a different situation. Right? If you're, if you're in a desperate situation, that's one thing. But we're not talking about that.
What we're talking about is the mindset that there's never enough. If you have an abundance mindset, then instead of making a desperate decision, you make solid- You make much better decisions. Let me put it that way.
You have a higher chance of gaining quality perspective. You got to have quality perspective in your decision making. You have a higher chance of gaining quality perspective when you have an abundance mindset.
Better Financial Management
What else can we expect? Well, what about better financial management, Chris? How can that possibly be? Well, when you have an abundance mindset, once again, you can be more proactive about your financial planning.
You can be incredibly smarter about your investment choices. You're not working off of desperation. Again, crazy thing about scarcity mindset, and this just sounds counterintuitive, but, man, it just is. It so exists.
Quite often people feel like since there isn't enough, they have to constantly be spending their money to obtain things that there's not enough of.
How ridiculous does that sound? Why would we continue to buy up stuff, spend our money on things that we really don't need because there's not enough of it? That doesn't even make any sense.
But people will be, well, I don't have enough clothes or I don't have enough toys, or I don't have enough video games or I don't have enough cars or whatever it is, they will continue to spend that money.
I don't go out enough and they go out five times a week, I don't do enough stuff. And they're constantly spending what they have. And then where does that leave them?
They don't have enough money. So when you have a scarcity mindset, financial management is not quality. When you have an abundance mindset, you believe you have plenty. You have enough.
You're not constantly having to spend your money to buy more stuff to fulfill yourself with things, right? Because you have plenty of things. You already have plenty of things and you have decent money at this point, hopefully.
So instead of just wasting everything or spending everything or tying everything up with an abundance mindset, you make smart decisions, you make great investments.
Folks, if you've been listening to me for any length of time, then you know the number one issue when it comes to business, when it comes to family, when it comes to friendships, is having a lack of high quality communication to make sure that you are absolutely winning in every aspect of your life.
It all starts with having great communication.
The best way to get that communication is to understand your personality style and to understand the personality style of the folks that you're spending the most time with, whether it be at work, whether it be at home.
The best way to do that is to go to chryslakurtle.com store and get your personality profile and personality profiles for your team to day.
Get it for your family members today, as you go through that profile, you will begin to see the greatest ways to communicate. Go to chrislocurto.com/store.
Stronger Relationships
Another thing you can expect when you have an abundance mindset. And man, this might hurt some folks to hear this, but it is truth. You can expect stronger relationships. Yes.
If you don't have very strong relationships, I want you to ask yourself the question, is it because you have a scarcity mindset?
It's very possible, right? So focusing on abundance, it tends to foster generosity. You will find folks with an abundant mindset give more. They spend more time, they collaborate with others.
They focus on more meaningful personal and professional relationships where scarcity tends to focus on what can I get from you? How can you benefit me? If you can't benefit me, why do I have you as a relationship, you know, in my life?
So another thing you can expect when you are focused on abundance is you're definitely going to have stronger relationships.
Unexpected Benefits of Switching your Mindset
Well, what about some of the unexpected benefits? Chris? Well, I'm so glad you asked. I'm here to share that with you.
Increased Adaptability and Flexibility
Something that is unexpected when you have an abundance mindset is increased adaptability. Another way I could say this is increased flexibility.
See, the great thing is, is that an abundance mindset makes you way more open to change, to new experiences, to enhancing your ability to adapt to different situations.
This is something that for me, I wish for everybody. I wish everybody, I'm somebody who is consistently gaining more great perspective, more information, new information.
There are big things in my life that I have changed. Big beliefs, big decision making pieces, because I was open to change. I was open to learning. This is happening literally right now in my life.
It's a consistent thing that I will learn something new and then adjust what I believe, what I'm doing, whatever it is, to the new information right now, don't confuse that with, you know, that I'm somebody who just takes the latest social media story and I've changed my belief system.
That is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about as a learned man, somebody who's studying all the time. As I come across things that I, that I did not know, or it's a different understanding or whatever it is, then the openness allows me to dive deep, it allows me to really ferret out the information.
It allows me to gain perspective from many people until I've got exactly what I need to make the right decisions or to ensure myself that I'm following the right path, whatever it is. Right?
That's what an abundance mindset does. So for example, imagine you're running a small business and a new competitor enters the marketplace, right?
Instead of seeing this as a threat, you view it as an opportunity to innovate and improve, whatever your offerings are, right. Oh my gosh, there's somebody who offers the same kind of stuff that we do. Great. Fantastic.
Let's take this opportunity to possibly change. I'm not saying a new competitor comes into town, you start selling something different.
I'm saying with an abundance mindset, it allows you to really, really evaluate what you have because you're not handcuffed to what you got. You realize that there's plenty for everybody.
But it's also smart to spend some time figuring out, could we do things differently? Can we differentiate ourselves from this new competitor that's just stepped into the marketplace? Right?
If we haven't already, what can we do? So the shift kind of allows you to quickly adapt your strategies, which allows you to explore, you know, possibly new marketing channels.
And if you do that then guess what? You end up possibly growing your customer base, or you really should be growing your customer base at that point.
Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills
So another great unexpected benefit from shifting to an abundance mindset is the enhanced problem solving skills. The way that you view challenges is considerably different than a scarcity mindset.
A person with abundance mindset really views challenges more as opportunities instead of obstacles, and it allows you to kind of boost your, your creative and your effective problem solving abilities.
When you have a scarcity mindset, you see issues, you see problems as a threat and something that you must tackle immediately instead of an opportunity.
So you once again are going to rock on with your, you know, your desperate decision making to try and solve the problem instead of focusing on, you know, uh, feeling defeated.
An abundance mindset sees it as a chance for better solutions. What's the best thing we can do to solve this? How's, what's the best way we could do this?
It leads to better brainstorming sessions, more creativity with your team, you know, more effective ways to tackle projects that probably wouldn't be considered otherwise.
Improved Emotional Intelligence
Another fantastic, unexpected benefit is improved emotional intelligence. Yes. When you focus on abundance, it helps you to manage your emotions better.
It helps you to understand others better, it helps you to lead stronger interpersonal connections. Everything, when it comes to your emotional intelligence, changes. Why?
Because you're not focused on the stress of relationship. Because there's not enough. Whatever. Right, whatever. Fill in the blank on this. What is the thing that's lacking?
What is the thing that you're missing? Because you have an abundance mindset. Instead of having a heated discussion with a colleague, instead of reacting defensively, you remain calm. You listen attentively, actively.
Your abundance mindset prevents you from looking at the situation too closely, so you better understand their perspective instead of only focusing on yours.
You're not sitting there waiting to have your chance to talk or waiting for somebody to take a breath so you can interject something. Instead, you spend time trying to understand where the other person is coming from.
You allow yourself to diffuse a bad situation or a difficult situation, which also, by the way, strengthens your relationship with this person instead of allowing it to continue to escalate.
This changes the relationship and the team dynamics that you have.
So when you are focused on abundance, then what happens is, is that you actually emotionally handle situations way better than you have in the past. If you're shifting over. Right.
Greater Sense of Purpose and Meaning
Another great unexpected benefit is a great sense of purpose and meaning. So an abundance mindset allows you to see a bigger picture. Right? So for me, I always say that, you know, mission is the purpose for something existing.
Well, what is the, the purpose? What is the mission in your life for whatever it is, your career, your family, your health, your finances, right? Your spiritual walk.
When you see things through this lens, then it allows you to see the bigger picture. It helps you to find deeper purpose and meaning in not only life, but your daily activities. Right.
It helps you to set up more purposeful and meaningful long term goals. Everything becomes more powerful because it's not you going, I've just got to get through today.
You know, I'm worried about what's going to happen next week. I've got to solve that, you know, in the next 15 minutes. Instead, you start looking at long term stuff.
Hey, what can life look like? What can it look like to not work, you know, 47 hours a day? What can it look like to spend more family time together? All of those things.
You find deeper meaning in time with family. You find deeper meaning in time of hobbies, right, health, exercise, whatever it is, all of that changes. It gives you a different perspective.
And when you have that newer perspective, then you find greater satisfaction. It could be in the purpose of your role at work. It could be, you know, helping other people to experience this as well.
Better Time Management and Productivity
Also, an unexpected great result is better time management and productivity. Yes, with less worry. Hear me again on this.
With less worry about scarcity, you can prioritize tasks way more effectively, way more effectively, leading to improved time management, leading to higher productivity.
So, for example, instead of constantly stressing over not having enough time, you begin to focus on opportunities. You begin to organize and delegate really well. You begin to prioritize your workload better.
You use tools in a better way to manage your schedule. You become more productive without constantly feeling overwhelmed. So throw all these pieces together. What are you experiencing?
You know, increased adaptability and flexibility, increased problem solving, improved emotional intelligence, greater sense of purpose and meaning, better time management and productivity.
The things we talked about before, greater optimism, resilience, decision making, financial management, stronger relationships. Why would you not shift to an abundance mindset?
Why would you not stop focusing on there not being enough things in your life, in your bank account, in your relationship? What if instead, you really started looking at things more positively, more optimistically?
What if you stopped making desperate decisions, even if you only make one every now and then? What if you didn't? What would it look like?
Additional Resources
So here's what I'd love for you to do. I want you to check out an episode that we did on scarcity mentality.
It's number 505 | The Psychology of a Scarcity Mentality to help you see where you are, you've just heard me list out a lot of great abundance mindset pieces. What you need to do is go back and listen to this episode on Scarcity.
Conclusion
So a scarcity mindset, again, is when you're so obsessed with the lack of something, usually it's time or money, as I shared with you, that keeps you from kind of focusing on anything else, no matter how hard you try.
And over time, that deficit starts to grow in your mind and really just take hold. So here's the deal. Research shows that that scarcity mindset could absolutely start to affect you in reality.
It can absolutely become your current reality that you make decisions that put you in the very place that you're afraid of being in. So, uh, this is a trained behavior.
It is something that is rooted in fear, it is something that is rooted in anxiety, and it absolutely must be unlearned.
So adopting an abundance mindset is the key to unlocking your full potential. It shifts your focus from what's lacking to what's possible. It helps you to lead a more optimistic, resilient, fulfilling, purposeful, meaningful life.
So do yourself a favor and embrace abundance, and you'll improve your decision making relationships, your creativity, your overall well being. And it will definitely pave the way for personal and professional success. So make that shift today.
Well, folks, hopefully this has helped you today. As always, we want you to take all of this information, change your leadership, change your business, change your life, and join us on the next episode.
