Have you ever noticed that you tend to feel energized or drowsy around the same times every day?
Each person can have a little different time when that happens. Some have tons of energy in the morning; others may be more energized in the evening.
No matter which it is, you can thank your circadian rhythm for that. What is that exactly?
According to the National Sleep Foundation, “Your circadian rhythm is basically a 24-hour internal clock that is running in the background of your brain and cycles between sleepiness and alertness at regular intervals. It’s also known as your sleep/wake cycle.”
For me, I’m super creative from 10 am to 3 pm, and my brain is on fire then! That’s when I schedule meetings or tasks that need a lot of brainpower.
For instance, I’ll get into accounting between those times or record podcast episodes because I have lots of brainpower and creativity.
And if you’re like most leaders, creativity is what you need the most.
We usually think of “creativity” as something artists have, but creativity is really just being innovative; it’s using knowledge in a new way.
If you figure out your circadian rhythm, you will be so much more effective, creative, and productive throughout your day.
So, listen to your body and work within your rhythm. And, if you need to adjust your rhythm, start working on that now.
