This week we have a special guest on the show to talk to us about what it was like to grow up in the social media age!
We have our very own team member, Steph Hansen on the show this week to discuss her life as she grew up discovering social media! She and I dive into what she experienced as a young teenager, how her parents handled the new generation and where she stands now at 21 years old looking back on her teen years in social media!
Have you ever wondered what your children are doing on their social media?
Steph Hansen (our Social Media Manager) and I talk about what it was like growing up during the expansion of Social Media. Her parents were dedicated to protecting her from what was happening online.
WHAT WAS YOUR NUMBER ONE STRUGGLE GROWING UP IN A SOCIAL MEDIA WORLD?
Comparision “I was always comparing myself to other girls…I was desperate for attention and affirmation.”
She realizes that the kids on social media do the same thing and try to create an image of who they are/want to be online but are really hiding who they truly are. Girls at just 12 years old can see celebrities like Kylie Jenner and immediately compare their body to hers, leaving no room for grace and acceptance, or even the ability to grow up without a care in the world.
IN THIS EPISODE WE HIT:
- The rules and disciplines in parenting when it comes to social media.
- How creating discipline now will set up your children for success.
- What you should know as a parent.
- The lies parents believe.
We had outstanding conversations and I know the parents would really appreciate hearing from the perspective of someone who walked through this not that long ago but can look back at her parents’ decisions with discipline, parental controls, and rules and be thankful they saved her from an enormous amount of hurt.
