I returned late yesterday from my vacation and I am back in the office today. Once again, I’m sorry I didn’t have posts throughout last week, but I’m going to work to remedy that today. Thank you to EVERYONE who continued to comment while I was out. You are greatly appreciated!!!
Guess who’s back,Back again,Chris is back!
Tell some friends!
@CGreene801 WOOT WOOT!!
Yes, we kind of entertained ourselves while you were gone.
@mkokc HAHAHA….I see that!! I love it!
Hurray! Glad to see you here. Withdrawal was setting in – odd twitching is hard to explain to friends and family. 🙂 Have a great day!
@Aaron Nelson I just woke up screaming and crying in the middle of the night….kinda embarrassing! Haha. Also hard to explain to family and friends…. 😉
@Skropp @Aaron BAH!!!!! People are wondering why I’m laughing so hard in my office!!
@Chris LoCurto @Aaron I’m busting up here too! Luckily I’m by myself!
Welcome back Chris. Hope you brought some post material back from the beach!
@tbric1 I have about 17 negative customer service posts. I just hate to focus so much on that. 🙂
@Chris LoCurto @tbric1 Go back and read all of those comments we had the other day by ourselves and you could probably get a month’s worth of content. 🙂
Yay!!! We did our very best to entertain ourselves…but it was kinda like trying to do The Dave Ramsey Show withOUT Dave Ramsey…it’s just not gonna be as cool! Glad you’re back and refreshed!
@Skropp Thanks man!
Welcome back, Chris! You were missed! (Even though it was NOT reflected in your comment activity throughout your absence!)
@skottydog Takes a very skilled blogger to have so many comments without posting 😀
@Lily Kreitinger @skottydog Yup and to have commenters that are (for the most part) so well behaved in his absence haha
@Lily Kreitinger @skottydog I mean, when there was no posts it couldve descended into anarchy, riots, strikes, protests, it’s scary to think about… But the commenters remained civil! Haha
@Skropp Yeah, even the spammers stayed well behaved!
@skottydog @Skropp Makes you wonder if Chris is running a custom cabinet design business on the side, huh.
@Jon Henry @skottydog @Skropp @Lily Kreitinger Crud! You found me out. I wonder why I’m not getting any orders for cabinets from the blog. 😉
Welcome back!! We were running out of topics :o) Happy Monday and we can’t wait to read some great posts!
@Lily Kreitinger Thanks Lily. I hope I can come up with some. 🙂
It is not a vacation unless you take your tribe with you. So, while I would like to add my “welcome back” to this list of comments, it would be inappropriate for me to acknowledge that you were even on vacation, right?
@Jon Henry Maybe he was trying to take a vacation FROM the tribe…
@Lily Kreitinger Interesting.
@Jon Henry I think he came back because he was afraid if he spent one more day away he’s have to change the name of The Blog from “Chris LoCurto’s Blog” to “Chris LoCurto’s TRIBE’S Blog” haha
@Skropp @Jon @Jon Henry Wait, is that why you guys weren’t with me?! I thought I told you where to be. Hmmmm
@Chris LoCurto @Jon @Jon Henry Uhhhh…I didn’t get the memo…was it the one about the TPS reports?? Hahahahaha
@Skropp @Chris LoCurto @Jon @Jon oh, did I forget the cover sheet?
@Chris LoCurto @Jon Yeah Chris, ya did… It’s just that we’re putting cover sheets on all our TPS reports now…
Haha, what a great movie!
@Skropp @Chris LoCurto @Jon
It’s totally a guy thing with that movie!
hi chris, welcome back. there should be no need to apologize going on vacation, and not posting while you’re gone. how can one truly relax when you don’t fully disengage? everyone needs a vacation now and again, and that includes you.
i have a few quick questions for you regarding “gossip”. how does dave define the term? is he speaking strictly in terms of workplace related gossip, or does he go beyond that to include non-work related gossip? how is that monitored without creating a hostile work environment? i’ve been employed by a company before where they’ve had a “no-talking” policy in place where everyone was prohibited to speak about anything outside of work, even on their breaktime. it was a horrible work environment. everyone was policing everyone else, and there were no friendships outside the workplace. i was only able to deal with it for about a month, and then found another job somewhere else. i’m a pretty laid back type of guy, and want to create a manufacturing business that has a welcoming, and professional culture, but still have a no gossip policy in place. thanks again.
@TonyStemick Complaints go up, praises go all around. If you don’t like how things are run and have a better idea, you take it to your leader… if you don’t like how things are run and complain to your coworkers, that is gossip. Commenting on how great a job everyone else is doing and knowing what motivates them… that is unity.
Prohibiting “Non-work” related discussions… that is just sad. If you’re looking to build a great culture, you want your people to know what the other people on your team are working towards. If my goals outside of work are to adopt a kid and pay for graduate school without going into debt, you will understand what drives and motivates me in my work. You can also encourage me better when times are rough. You’re also a lot more inclined to make ethical decisions when you know the well being of the children your coworkers are raising is on the line if you goof up and do something bad. Knowing who you work with is not gossip, that’s culture.
Good job on bailing out on that horrible place of business though, and good luck with your business adventure!
@Jon Henry @TonyStemick I think Jon pretty much nailed that! It’s not about being a tyrant. It’s about setting an atmosphere where people can feel safe AND be rewarded. When you do that, you don’t have to worry about morale. Great question and answer!!
@TonyStemick @Chris LoCurto @Jon Henry I remember an EntreLeadership podcast recently that spoke about this. Dave defined gossip as discussing a problem with someone that is unable to fix it.
@Jon Henry , @Chris LoCurto , @JoshuaWRivers :
Thanks to all who responded. Thank you Jon for hitting the nail on the head…;) The company I am building is definately going to know the difference between pleasant conversation, and gossip. Btw, the example “company” i used was a place I used to work for ten years ago. I don’t think that company even exists anymore.
Did you miss Ice Cream Friday?
@MattMcWilliams2 I did! Suck!!
@Chris LoCurto Epic fail. 🙂
NICE!
@RicardoEquips Thanks Ricardo.
@Chris LoCurto But of course! Welcome! I’ve been missing the meat I get out of this blog.
Welcome back, Chris! Tell us you missed us – we are like sheep without a shepherd, wandering here and there in our topics, wondering if you even read our goofy conversations, hoping you peeked in once or twice.
@cabinart I TOTALLY missed you guys!! It was difficult not to get online and chat. As you can see, I had to post at least once because it was driving me nuts. 🙂
@cabinart I HOPE he at least goes back and reads them! They were WWAAAYYY too funny to be for naught!
@Skropp @cabinart Oh I will!
Welcome back – totally understand – but you were missed!
