As we head into the heart of summer, you’re probably already having meetings. Maybe too many.
But here’s the real question: Are those meetings actually producing clarity, alignment, and growth?
The truth is, meetings are only valuable if they are held with purpose, not as habits. And that starts with the intentionality of the right conversations
The best leaders create a structure that frees them, not buries them.
They know exactly what conversations to have, when to have them, and why they matter.
If you want to be the kind of leader who consistently leads your team forward, here are three conversations I believe you need to have every single month.
These aren’t scripts. They’re rhythms. And when you build them into your leadership cadence, they will absolutely change your team’s performance—and your peace of mind.
1. A Vision Conversation
Your team needs to hear where we’re going and why it matters.
Not once a year. Not once a quarter. Every month.
If you’re not consistently talking about the vision, your team will get stuck in the weeds. They’ll drift into task mode. And the “why” behind their work will get fuzzy fast.
What to say:
- “Here’s what we’re chasing right now.”
- “Here’s why this matters.”
- “Here’s how your role connects to the bigger picture.”
Why it matters:
When people see where you’re going—and how they fit in—they take more ownership. They lead better. And they stop spinning their wheels on the wrong things.
2. A Development Conversation
Your people need to know that you’re not just using them to hit goals—you’re invested in helping them grow.
That means talking about more than performance. You need to talk about leadership growth, mindset, strengths, and areas for development.
What to ask:
- “Where are you struggling right now?”
- “Where do you want to grow this quarter?”
- “What do you feel unsure about as a leader?”
Why it matters:
People who feel seen and supported develop faster—and they stick around longer. They stop avoiding problems, and they start leaning in.
3. A Feedback + Accountability Conversation
You can’t build a strong culture without consistent, respectful feedback. And you can’t develop real leaders without accountability.
So once a month, make space to talk about what’s working—and what’s not.
What to say:
- “Let’s talk about how that last project went—what worked, what didn’t?”
- “What didn’t get done this month, and why?”
- “Here’s something I’ve noticed—I want to give you feedback on it.”
Why it matters:
Accountability is a gift. And feedback creates clarity. If you’re not talking about follow-through, you’re unintentionally lowering the standard.
You Don’t Need More Meetings—You Need the Right Ones
These three conversations—vision, development, and accountability—don’t have to be formal, lengthy, or perfectly planned. But they do need to happen.
When you start showing up consistently with these rhythms, here’s what you’ll see:
- Less confusion
- Less fire-fighting
- More ownership
- More trust
- And far more team alignment
It’s not magic. It’s leadership. Done with intentionality.
