519 | The Dangers of Self-Pursuit

Avoid self-pursuit: Learning to take the focus off of yourself is one of the healthiest things that you can do – for you.

This is not an easy, or even a popular, topic to hit, because our modern culture is geared towards getting us to focus on ourselves. In fact, we’ve got a ton of tools to help us do this!

From iPhones to MyBeats, YouTube to Facebook, and even ordinary cameras and mirrors. We’re surrounded by instruments that help us to shine the light on ourselves. Well, sort of.

Here’s the irony: the more we place ourselves in a spotlight, the more warped our perception is of who we really are. It’s like we’re living our lives in a carnival funhouse full of mirrors.

It offers a distorted picture, a warped image of reality. While the addiction to self-pursuit turns us inward, it doesn’t do it in a healthy way that helps us to self-examine, address wounds, or heal.

Spend any amount of time scrolling on social platforms and how do you feel? Are you happier? Are you freer? Or perhaps, after so much comparison, a little inadequate and insufficient?

You’ve probably wasted some time on social media only to find yourself frustrated and uneasy.

Folks, we’ve got to tap the brakes on this vehicle that’s driving us to focus on ourselves to the point of depression, and worse. You have so much more potential and purpose to pursue!

We have to get our eyes off of ourselves, and turn our gaze outward, if we want to move forward.
