Do you want to start a business? Are you currently trying to start a business?
If you are wanting to be an entrepreneur…fear will be whispering in your ear.
“I’m afraid of getting clients.”
“I’m afraid of getting started.”
The list of whispers is endless.
I hear this a lot from entrepreneurs that I work with.
They say things like:
“I’m not going to be prepared enough.”
“I don’t have all the answers.”
” I don’t know what to say.”
Instead of doing the hard work, most people just do busy work.
They work on their website. Or maybe they say, “I’m waiting on my business cards before I start.”. …sure you are.
It’s just excuses, all because of fear.
Being afraid of failure is like being afraid of school. Failure is the best teacher you could ever have.
As you fail, you learn. It’s ok to fail, just learn from it.
If you’re afraid to get business and get clients, fear is going to tell you everything it can to get you to not go after it. Then you’ll get stuck.
You need to RIGHT NOW, call fear out. CALL IT OUT NOW!!!
What are you afraid of?
Write it down.
Ask yourself, “Why am I afraid of this?”.
What can you do about it?
If it’s “I’m afraid I would be prepared.” well get prepared. Eliminate the excuse.
Failure can be a tool for those who are willing to use it.
This isn’t just about starting a business…it’s about life.
So stop putting off what you know you need to do. Make a plan. Do the research. Pick up the phone. Send the email. Make the pitch. Stay up late. Get up early. Work on the weekend. Make up your mind that you will take action. Do what it takes.
The worst thing you can do is to shut yourself down with failure that doesn’t even exists.
You CAN do this.
My biggest hang up is what to charge. I’m trying to structure the cost with tiered packages for our services as well as a la carte items. I’m struggling coming to terms with the hard numbers though. I’m meeting with potential clients trying to get a feel for what they need and go from there to begin, But that’s not making things easier.
What’s the industry?
shoot me an email, maybe we can help:

What I struggle with is how to create a product. I work in HVAC as a field tech. I like it, but I don’t know if I love it. My wife tells me that it’s not my passion. I have another area of passion, but am unsure of how to start. If I wanted to break into the business and leadership consulting industry, would you say that it is better to go and get results first and then sell your framework for the results, or instead find the “best practices” and sell that knowledge? Or…should I wait until my Life Plan to find out how God has designed me and then start thinking about starting my own business?
Chris, Have you ever heard of someone having a fear of success? I’m a physical therapist and I have started a side business treating patients after hours and on weekends. I know I have the opportunity to be really successful but for some crazy reason that scares me. I recently started blogging for my business but it took me a while to publish it b/c I was scared that I would begin getting calls. I’m also fearful of the day I have to turn in my notice to go full time with my business. It frustrates me because my ultimate goal is to be my own boss. Does that have anything to do with the fact that I am a High S, High C personality?
