Michael Hyatt joins me on the podcast today to talk about his incredible new goal-setting course, 5 Days To Your Best Year Ever.
You can absolutely make 2014 your best year ever but it’s not just going to happen. Making resolutions and having goals is a step in the right direction but to actually achieve meaningful goals, you need an action plan. In the Skype interview, Michael and I talk about:
- How to write S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, time-bound)
- Why looking into your past can change your future
- How to get motivated and stay motivated
- What happens if you don’t achieve your goal(s)
- Why you should focus on 5 to 7 goals that are career and life oriented
- How to get off your “BUT”
- What to do about people that don’t support your goals
I would love to be able to win this course to help me set and reach my goals of:
-Starting my own podcast January 31st.
-Obtain 5 speaking engagements this year.
-Finishing my first book by the latest May 2014.
-Reach my goal weight of 180 pounds by July 22 2014.
Great podcast Chris, keep up the great work Sir.
Thank YOU Ben!! And all great goals
Oh! I get to be first! It was great to hear both if you on the same podcast again – should do it more often 🙂 (maybe on This is Your Life, too)
My best year ever will be the one where I get my business off the ground, have time with my family, and get to help others more.
I’ve already started making some action plans to carry out a couple goals. One such goal is exercising – I’m putting together a plan to just do something in January, and then follow a 28-day challenge in February. From there, I’ll work at developing a regular habit of it. I do have a goal of losing weight, but I’m going to do that by focusing on Hiw to lose weight: proper diet and exercise.
Sounds good to me! I need the same goal. 🙂
I’m right there with you Josh! It’s really hard for me to do it. I claim I have “no time”. I will get rid of that excuse and start small. (Insert short joke here). I know your business will grow and thrive sooner than you expect! 🙂
Best year ever looks like one where I am happy in all facets of my life. Both personal and professional. By setting smaller goals this will help me achieve the big picture goals!
I like the look of that year!
After many, many years of relocating, changing jobs, making and losing friends, 2014 is the year to settle in. These are my goals starting out:
– Organize and declutter my house. We are starting by setting up a hibachi grill room this month.
– Read the Kazdin Method for parenting. Apply one new technique every month this year.
– By March 31, 2014, learn how to write estimates and proposals for my consulting role at work. This will allow me to assume more complex leadership responsibilities.
– Set up my “side” business formally. Meet with my accountant to submit all necessary paperwork by January 31.
Aaaaaaand do a LifePlan with CLo. 🙂
Yes. That. Because it is entirely possible that all the above goals are taking me in the wrong direction :))
Want to break out of the ordinary. Some unfortunate job events have left me wondering where to go next. Want to win BIG! Realize goal setting and being brave are the next step.
Breaking out of the ordinary! Yes, that’s me too! Or, more specifically, to me it means I need to step out and do NEW things. What’s that quote? “To get what you’ve never had, you must do what you’ve never done.”
Good luck on being brave and stepping out! You can do it!
I totally agree with what Josh said!
Chris, for me the best year ever would actually be to:
– Restructure the culture in our business to be better than last year.
– Create two new products game activities for teachers and speakers and two new programs for corporate team building on communication and collaboration.
– Pay off the house by March and Run a half marathon with my wife on April 26th in Nashville,
Chris, thanks for connecting us with this great content. Please keep pushing us to be the best that God has created.
TODAY, I am committing my 2014 goals to paper and then posting them around so I can not help but order my days to meet them. Thank you for the nudge, Chris. My
Three books! Wowza! I started using Pinterest more recently and I’ve seen results already on driving traffic to my blog. Great tool to reach target audiences.
My best year ever would involve taking advantage of the wonderful opportunities that have been presented to me in terms of medical missions work, as well as, professional doors that have been opened.
This is exactly where ny organization and I am personally. I’m great at seeing a big picture and seeing what can/ should be done. The problem is I;m a procrastinator and I have trouble finishing well. Loks like a great course!
Best year ever? When I look into the rearview mirror of my life one year from now I will have grown deeper in my walk with Christ, stronger in my relationships with my wife and kids while becoming more effective at bringing out the best physically, relationally, professionally and spiritually in others and myself for God’s glory.
Now looking ahead with specificity, my first goal is to reshape and restructure my six goals for 2014.
Thank you, Chris and Michael for the knowledge and inspiration!
Congratulations Brent – you’re the winner of Michael Hyatt’s new course 5 Days To Your Best Year Ever! Get in touch with Melissa (melissa at chrislocurto.com) & she’ll get you the course!
My best year ever looks like action. 100% action behind all the planning. And, like Michael said, specific and measurable goals are key. At least for me they are. I am noticing a complete shift in how I approach my goals when I set my mind to taking action instead of simply talking about them or getting stuck in an endless planning stage.
Nice!
You sound ready to go!
Great to hear Michael on with you Chris!
I bought Michael;s course in December and went through it with my wife. Our #BestYearEver includes growing our income and spend more intentional time with our kids and each other.
Paying it forward! I like that…
I would love to get my house, my fitness, my meal planning and my work more organized this year. Thanks!
I think this year has the opportunity to be my best year ever. I have created 5 goals for myself and if I keep on track with them while spending quality time with those I love it will be amazing. Even if I don’t make all my goals working hard at accomplishing them throughout the entire year would make it successful.
Love your aim at balance here!
That is what I am striving for!
My best year ever would be discovering the specific plan for my career path. I’m at the beginning and a little unclear as to which path to take. I would like to start my own business, but unsure how my platform would integrate my skill set. Perhaps I might do better remaining with the company I’m presently with and moving up through management and gaining more experience. My best year would have clear direction and making leaps of progress towards that goal because it would be my calling and where I’m most fulfilled in doing work that matters.
Nick – When you say platform what do you mean?
I’m referring to an online presence that would develop a following and business from the services I would offer.
My best year ever would be to have our family business off the ground and going crazy. To have a successful year of homeschooling, to hit my fitness goals, and to have time to grow closer to Jesus during all of it! Love you and Michael. You guys have changed my life and make me realize that anything is possible with hard work and focus! THANK YOU!
Wow! Thanks Kari!! That means a lot
My best year ever include buying our first home, helping my husband get on a career track he loves, and creating a healthy lifestyle for our family.
Not just great goals but BIG goals! I love it.
My best year ever would be improving my walk with the Lord, my family, fitness, and my career growth.
Great stuff Mike!
Hey, Chris! Thanks for the great episode and keep up the good work!
My best year ever looks like this:
– Keep up the weekly podcast I just started and have 1000 regular listeners (1000 downloads a week = 4000 downloads per month).
– Increase my income by 30%
– Run 3X per week.
– Read the bible every day.
– Go on a special date with my wife at least twice per month.
– Play with my son every night.
– Help someone else achieve one of his or her 2014 goals.
I love these brother! Great job!!
Thank you Chris for your podcasts. They have been helpful and encouraging.
My best year ever is to get my second job off the ground with $1,000/month in sales by December, run/workout 3x a week with a goal of running a 5k in under 20 minutes by June, and spend a minimum of 15 minutes in the Bible and prayer every day.
