The Poimen Group Announcement

It’s been almost six months since I started my business. After 12 amazing years with Dave Ramsey, countless hours leading, teaching and coaching leaders and entrepreneurs, I felt God calling me to leave. It was the most difficult decision I’ve ever made but over the past few months, I’ve built my own business to do what I love – coach business and entrepreneurs and develop leaders.

Along the way, I talked to someone very special about naming my business. She gave me the word “Poimen.”  Which, if I’m being serious, sounded lame. But then she sent me the definition.

Poimen (pronounced poy-mane’) is the Greek word in the Bible for:

A herdsman, especially a shepherd. The tasks of a Near Eastern shepherd were – to watch for enemies trying to attack the sheep – to defend the sheep from attackers – to heal the wounded and sick sheep – to find and save lost or trapped sheep – to love them, sharing their lives, and so earning their trust.

It was so powerful and a word that many have since told me is me. I sat on it awhile, and even asked some of the #CLoTribe if they had any ideas. And as God does it, a couple of people said that I remind them of the word “Poimen.” Yes Virginia, God really does care about the little things.

I shared it with the folks helping me build the business and they were all excited. Therefore, let me introduce you to the company name –

The Poimen Group

My heart is to grow leaders, entrepreneurs, team members and businesses to be better than they have ever been. I want to change the popular opinion that leadership is about the leader. Instead, real leadership is about serving others.

If you’ve been with me awhile you know one of my sayings:

As a leader, it’s your job to make your team successful, not the other way around.

And with that, I want to introduce some of the incredible people who have come onboard to help me get this thing going. First off, I need to recognize two guys who really helped me get started and headed in the right direction and continue to help push this machine along:

Lance Osborne worked with me for many years and was the Director of our Simulcast Department. On top of having been a great leader for me, he’s also been an incredible friend. While he has a full-time job, and an amazing family, he’s found the time to help me get The Poimen Group off of the ground. Even going so far as to travel across the country to produce a video shoot that I’ll be featuring on the blog soon.

Keith Cook has been a friend for almost 20 years. Keith, who also has a full-time job, and a family almost as big as Lance’s, has found personal time to come along side me to help get my online presence moving in the right direction (which is pretty much like speaking Chinese to me.) He’s been instrumental in getting the pieces together needed to make the change.

Melissa Czech worked with me in my marketing department and was known as my “commander”. Not only is she very talented at marketing, but she also knows how to get things done! She has come on board to focus on marketing, content, social media, and pretty much everything else to make this business all it can be. Melissa is helping me to give direction to The Poimen Group.

Brian Alex has been a personal friend for many years and he just happens to be the father of my beautiful god-daughters. Even though he is days away from moving his family to Sicily to be missionaries, he has been helping me to get administrative systems in place, and will continue to help from across the seas.

Joel Fortner is not only a friend, father to my godson, and contributor to Chris LoCurto.com, he’s also married to one of my favorite people on the planet, my former personal assistant, Marybeth. Not only did he steal her away from me (I’m still bitter), but he’s also come on board to help with the sales side of the business. I’m excited to have his years of expertise.

Brock Fuller is a young entrepreneur at heart with a passion for business. We have named him “Brock the Intern.” He’s come on board to learn about building businesses and helping leaders and entrepreneurs succeed. Along with having the entrepreneurial fire, Brock brings a TON of great ideas and talent to the table.

The final team member is you, the #CLoTribe. You have been instrumental in me focusing on the talents that God has given me to help His children succeed. If it wasn’t for you, there wouldn’t be a Chris LoCurto.com. You make it an absolute joy to do what I do.

I can guarantee that the people who’ve been through the StratOp & LifePlan events we’ve been doing, are grateful you exist as well. They are enjoying incredible business AND personal change!

Well, there you have it folks. I wish I had the space to write everything I would like to about these amazing people. If you made it this far in the post, I’m honored!

    Chris,

I think it’s awesome and fitting. If you haven’t read the book entitled, “A Shepard looks at Psalm 23” by Phillip Keller, please read it. The author has awesome insight on how “dumb” sheep are and the necessity of the shepherd in helping to preserve their lives and well being. It is profound.

I think you will find greater insight on why we NEED Christ as our shepherd and likewise inspiration for you as a shepherd in the area of finances and business growth.

    All the best,
    April Fortenberry

    1. BAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is awesome!!! I do have to say that I fall in that sheep category myself so many times. 🙂 Thanks April, and thank you for your support and encouragement!

  2. Proud of you. Honored to call you friend! Praying for blessings upon you and the team and looking forward to having our StratOp very soon. -Aaron West

I feel very fortunate to have seen this business start and I have no doubt it will reach many far and wide. God has guided your steps and will pour abundant blessings over all of you. WOOT!!!!

  7. Bob Winchester

I’m so glad you told me how to pronounce that! Great name though, nice work! I feel fortunate to see this taking shape. Can’t wait to see more of your team and their inevitable results!

  8. Chris,
I think the greatest fruit of a leader is producing leaders. Blessings on your new direction and may it yield abundant fruit.

  9. Truly remarkable – how God is already using this for His glory and the good of many, many people. Proud of you, brother! Thanks for having the courage and determination to step out of the boat and obey. God has such good things in store!

Exciting Chris. Love the name, it totally fits. And I can’t wait to see where you go! You’re a great man, and I feel fortunate to have “stumbled across” your site and been able to learn from you and get to know you! The CLoTribe is definitely behind you!

    1. Dude, thank you so much for all you’re doing to help those folks! And congrats on what you guys are doing!!

  11. This is an awesome team, Chris! It’s been great to be a part of this Tribe. Your leadership and advice is great, and I love the interactions that come from the Tribe members. Definitely have developed some great friendships here over the past 1+ year.

  12. Weird word, very apt meaning, thanks for the pronunciation help.

    Herdsman – sheep – wool – yarn – knitting. . . sounds good!

It is fun to watch this all develop (I almost said “unfold” but it sounded sort of sheepy.)

It is a privilege to be part of the CLo tribe. I’ve found so many interesting and wise people as a result of this blog.

Thank you for all you do and share, Chris, and God bless you and your staff (the people, not the long stick) as you move ahead!

  13. great name, Chris. This is exciting to see someone pursue their passion. The first lesson is that you gathered the right people around you to make the startup as painless as possible.

    Rock and roll, dude.

  14. How exciting – and what a perfect name! It embodies your mission completely. Wishing you tremendous success!

  15. Ricardo Butler

Awesome name! In my ministry/business (Ricardo Equips Artistic Leaders) we define “Poimen” in the Business realm as “Pastoral Entrepreneur.” And that is exactly what you do Chris LoCurto.

We describe this leader as ….

“A person who has the ability to encourage and feed the sheep. That’s what a pastor does. He is a shepherd. That means leading the sheep. It means protecting them and bringing them to new pastures. That is the function of the shepherd. You see people need a direction. People are like sheep, whether they are Christians or not.And just as believers need a spiritual leader, in the same way in the business realm, do not expect your employees just to know what to do to get out there and to function in business. Even though they have a business anointing they need a leader. They need somebody to give them direction. In business this is absolutely essential. This is a vital function amongst business leadership.”

A pastoral entrepreneur is also …

    A Business Counselor:

“Every single believer who works in business needs continual and regular direction. So the Pastoral Entrepreneur is a business counselor/coach/consultant. He is somebody who gives advice, counsel and direction to people. He has to love people, not just love making money. In fact sometimes they forget that the main purpose for being there is actually to make money. They love people so much and love helping them to get going in their jobs. And sometimes they forget that the main purpose is to make money, because that is what the business exists for. They are so wrapped up in helping people, in encouraging them and motivating them to find their place and function, that sometimes they forget that this is a business function, not a ministry function. But that is the amiable temperament that is in most pastors; the amiable that just likes to help people. So you have to go beyond the natural amiable temperament and into the anointing of God. You have to realize that God has anointed you to bring together those Christians who are in a business function; to motivate them, encourage them, counsel them, and lead them in the way they should go in their business.

And finally a Business Poimen is a …

A Good Leader who is also a GREAT Manager:

“The typical role of the Pastoral Entrepreneur is to be the manager of a business. What does a manager do? He brings out the best in the staff/team. The manager sees the potential in each one, and tries to help each person to rise up and reach their full potential. And so a good manager who operates under this anointing is concerned about every single employee in his care, helping them to rise up and excel in their work. And God provides the anointing that is needed for it. This is the person who supervises/oversees the crew. He puts everybody in their place and gets the business running tip top with each one doing what they are supposed to do.”

And THIS is you Chris! I love it! Congrads on you and your team!

      1. Ricardo Butler

Well this is from an old business leadership message I taught way before I even heard of EntreLeadership or Dave Ramsey or any of that stuff. I’m surprise I was able to find it in my Dropbox. lol!

  16. Chris,
Very original! It will stand you out as not only an Entrepreneur but as an innovator. Outside the box thinking is what we need from young Leaders, such as yourself. I’m trying to motivate my son into striking out in the world with his writing. I point to Leaders such as yourself as examples of what can happen with drive and directed motivation as examples for him to look to. Thanks Chris! Keep up the good work. Today’s youth need role models such as you to lead!

  19. Very good and fitting! I’m really excited for you and the great team you have assembled. I know the ones from Lampo past. Charge!

  20. AWESOME!
Somehow I knew you were going to use that word 🙂
    It is definitely fitting!
Doesn’t God work in amazing ways, even in the seemingly small things? But a name is not a small thing when it so wholly defines you and your mission in life.
So excited for you and your staff (I’ll use the word since everyone else is 😉 and so excited to watch everything progress. You keeping us up to date is a must! 🙂

  21. I’ve always liked the idea of introducing a new word, it forces people to look it up, learn something and hopefully makes it memorable. Can’t wait to continue to learn from you, the group and as always the tribe. Congrats Chris on being bold in your faith and trusting Gods path for your life. Many blessings to you and those you work with!

  22. Taisha Stewart

Congrats on picking a name, Chris! I had the pleasure of talking to Joel briefly about you helping me get some direction and focus with LifePlan, and I think it’s outstanding what you guys are doing. Keep up the great work…the Poimen Group is indeed blessed!

  23. It works. Let’s see if you work it. Thank you, Chris for all that you do. You’re podcast was a great inspiration to me over the past few years and I am seeing great success because of the passion you have helped stoke in me. Keep up the good work.

  24. Chris,
I am glad that you are following your calling! The name of your company is quite fitting and inspirational. Although you are sorely missed on the Entreleadership podcast.
