In this episode of Coffee with Chris, I sit down with David Morris, CEO of Dillanos Coffee Roasters, to talk about what it really takes to build — and protect — a powerful company culture.
David shares the story behind his book The Rolling Desk, how he literally rolled his desk into different departments to better understand his team, and the leadership lessons that transformed his organization from the inside out.
If you want a stronger team, better communication, and a culture people actually want to be part of — this episode is packed with practical insights.
What You’ll Learn
- Why leadership should spend more time reflecting on past wins than obsessing over future goals
- How a “rolling desk” can expose communication gaps you didn’t know existed
- The power of core values — and how to make them real instead of just words on a wall
- Why “normal is not enough” when it comes to hiring and building a winning team
- How to create a workplace where smiles and positivity are the standard
- The importance of hiring for culture first — and skill second
- Why simplifying your focus leads to better execution and stronger results
- How small acts of integrity (even 43-cent refunds) build massive long-term trust
- Creative ways to stand out in competitive markets
- A practical mindset shift that can transform every customer interaction into the highlight of someone’s day
Culture doesn’t change by accident.
It changes when leaders decide to live it out consistently — through communication, hiring, creativity, integrity, and intentional celebration of wins.
David’s story is proof that you don’t build a great company by chasing hype — you build it by focusing on people, values, and execution.
As always, take this information, change your leadership, change your business, change your life — and join us on the next episode.

So encouraged when I hear leaders of larger organizations admit that overcoming mediocre communication is an ongoing, continual endeavor. This area is probably the single largest concern I have when it comes to shepherding our team culture – cultivating good communication. So challenging, but so worth it when you see your team flourishing because we took the time to understand one another and work together!
Great Interview Chris – Sounds like David has worked hard to create a great company culture which seems to be a rare thing. I loved the quote “Normal is Not Enough”
Tell David to let me know if he ever wants to set up shop in Atlanta.
